Amidst the backdrop of a massive fear and dislike of each other between humans and Birdlings after a war which left only Bimonia and her mother Lulululu as the last Birdlings alive and living near human habitation together with multiple grey shades of morality among humans and Birdlings, Tayo and Bimonia's friendship and survival will be put to the test in this thriller and horror visual novel over 21 chapters as Tayo and Bimonia grow up to adulthood and reach different phases of their lives. The game has plenty of save slots to allow different gameplay choices to be made during the game, with popup icons of a red/green feather and a portrait of Bimonia/Tayo to help players reach all the 5 possible endings where the number of red and green feathers required to reach each ending will be shown. Soundtracks, artwork and overall game presentation are good. Recommended with soundtrack and artbook DLC when at discount or bundle offer as it takes less than 10 hours to reach all endings.(Also recommended to download and finish the demo version of this game before buying this game and adding to library for an additional easy to finish 100% completed game). I hardly write reviews but this game really needs some promotion and can't go left unsaid. The story starts sweet as they are young and exploring but soon throws you into choices that leave you thinking. I won't go into further detail as you should go in as blind as possible. The different endings depending on your choice are nicely fleshed out, worth to go through them. Certainly some of them threw a curveball, which was a pleasant surprise. My first playthrough was about 6 hours long, I think I'm a medium speed reader, and I finished the other endings in another 2 hours. You can skip the text automatically if you've already are familiar with the lines and it will stop whenever you stumble upon unread lines. Also the skip speed is really nice.Even if this Visual Novel isn't voiced the music is very ambient and amazingly fitting to every scene. What I found a nice little touch that whenever a part played out in the rain it would have rain sound for a few second and then it would diminish, which didn't leave you with constant repeating rain noise in the background. It was enough to get my attention to "hey, rain" and then not bother me anymore through repeat. It's appreciated they made the effort in little noises to create more immersion.I would highly recommend this Visual Novel to friends. Maybe not to people who are starting out with Visual Novels as it deals with heavy themes and absolutely don't sugar coat them. (Which I highly appreciate, too little VNs of this caliber story.) Absolutely worth my money I enjoyed playing through it.. In its core this game is a blend of some of the stronger Point&Click games and VNs here on Steam, mixed with an anime art style. If you have enjoyed VNs with multiple endings set in fanatsy worlds, this one could be for you.Initially drawn in by the defined art style and promising concept, this VN proved to be so much more. The story is unique compared to other works here on Steam and shines with its surprises and immersion. It combines both emotions and violence and offers surprising twists and shed tears. Both main characters have unique traits and are very round characters. Although some may not enjoy the concept of reading about the stories of young children and their development into adults, think about Telltale's The Walking Dead. Choices affect the characters' development and reveal different sides, which ultimately changes the ending. Be warned: There is no definite ending to this game. You'll have to live with your choices. A VN for everybody who enjoys the anime art style but doesn't necessarily want to rely on the typical anime content (cute girls, girl on girl, silly plot and weak development). Unique story line, surprises and a strong, independent voice as a writer come together in this violent but fantastic novel. I highly recommend!. Man, I've played my fair amount of VN's, and this has to be second for its sheer emotional power, second only to Lucy, The Eternity She Wished For. The plot starts out so innocent and endearing you cant not utterly fall in love with all of the characters, and by the end you just...can't. The music is minimalistic and is composed of oriental style tracks using oriental instruments, in fitting with the setting, which is very effective in the majority of places, but I feel like the instrument choices prevent the game from fully realising the potential of many of the sad scenes. I've always found Pianos, Violins and Harps to be the best type of instrument for these effects, but the weight of all of the scenes that suffer this slight setback makes up for this. However, without a single mediocre character, and trust me you will either love or hate every character by the end, excellent visuals and a stellar plot, I can't recommend this game enough.. Solid 10/10 One of the games one can real art, one of the rare masterpieces. + Characters that actually posess well-written personality and clear motivation. Their strong sides and flaws are logically balanced. + Structured lore(sorry, but in current year first two point already make a visual novel, if nota game in general stand out) + Heavy plot that makes you think. No spoilers, but don't expect a nice story that brightens your day. + Actions have consequenses + Deep psychological stuff. + Passes the Bechdel test. However, I do not believe men would be able to appreciate the whole depth of the story, as all the main characters are female and the game features classical "mother and daughter" conflict they can't relate to. + True friendship Play The Last Birdling > Listen to a hobo spitting some truth about this world > Get a bachelor degree in psychology.. I wishwishwish there was a 'neutral' or 'darned if I know quite what I think of it' option, because I was back and forth on this one the whole time I was playing it. You follow two protagonists--Tayo, a human girl, and Bimonia, the possibly last of a winged humanoid species--as they grow up and attempt to overcome the hatred between their two species. The writing is clunky and erratic in tone, many events clumsily dark, the character development uneven, and the worldbuilding and internal logic have holes you could drive a Star Destroyer through. But there's still something to the premise and story, and two of the five endings actually worked for me. This is one of those stories that could have been very good, but instead is frustrating and baffling. (Also, SO MANY TRIGGER WARNINGS. Don't play if you have common triggers.). A fun visual game, interesting story with quite a few decision points. Can or will friendship overcome the history of their races For you to decide how the journey could go. The outcome at the end depending on choices made during the game.It is a short game but I'm certainly glad I played it.I also really liked the music tracks which did emphasise the story.. German further down...InvertMouse is celebrating 5 years existence with her best title. Wounderful Artwork, nice music and a tragic story about a forbidden friendship. It reminded me sometimes of Disneys "The Fox and the Hound". Seems like some aspects were inspired from it.Pro:- Cute Artdesign- Over 5 hour content- Ending requirements IN GAME and it keeps track of your choices. I want that more often in other VNs- No blind choices- Glossar included- Ear Animation of the Birdings (So cute ^_^)Contra:- No VoicesPS: NO Yuri includes, just friendship_____________________________________________Invertmouse feiert 5 Jahre mit ihrem bislang besten Titel. The Last Birdling is another masterpiece created by InvertMouse! The seemingly innocent concept as a forbidden friendship between two young girls of different races escalates to a heavy story with a few dark twists, but also very emotional and heartwarming. Excelent writing, beautiful art and soundtrack, multiple choices and endings combine into an unforgettable experience.
